At Thistlewood Timber Frame Homes, our commitment is simple: the creation of energy efficient custom built timber frame structures, as elegant and distinctive as they are rich in tradition and craftsmanship.
Established in 1982 by Scott A. Murray, Thistlewood Timber Frame Homes has constructed more than 250 handcrafted residential and commercial timber frame structures. Located in the heart of Central Ontario, we can service clients in a wide geographic area including the United States and the Caribbean, and have successfully exported a timber frame home to Yokohama,
Japan.
Thistlewood's award winning in-house design staff, coupled with talented timber joiners and on-site assembly crews, allows us to be a full-service company which can also administer and co-ordinate general contracts and supervise subtrade installations.
Typically, custom timber frame structures by Thistlewood are crafted in salvaged and recycled Douglas Fir or new Eastern White Pine timbers but other species are available. Thistlewood promotes the use of reclaimed wood wherever possible, especially old growth Douglas Fir beams salvaged from warehouses and factories being demolished. All joinery is traditional mortise-and-tenon secured with oak pegs. Complex roof systems, dormer systems and unique joinery techniques are a specialty for both residential and commercial structures.Thistlewood's millwork division can also supply reclaimed lumber for casework, staircases and trim.
Attention to detail and a sound commitment to excellence has helped Thistlewood establish a solid reputation as a quality custom home builder. Timber embellishments including chamfers, quirk beads, hand-carved details on gunstock posts and hammerbeam bents are commonplace. All timbers are pre-fitted and finishes are applied in Thistlewood's shop to allow ease of
assembly and frame completion on site.
Traditional, contemporary and other unique and specific design requests can easily be accommodated by Thistlewood's experienced staff, and many options can be utilized to successfully express the client's architectural and aesthetic desires.
The majority of Thistlewood's timber frames are enclosed with stresskin insulation panels, and we also offer stresskin panel installation services upon request.
