Hugh Lofting Timber Framing, Inc. has been incorporated since 1974, and is located in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. Its owner, Hugh Lofting, began working in the construction business in the early 1970's doing restoration work in the city of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Long interested in the construction and joinery of barns, he began to read extensively about the art of timber framing, and traveled to New England to see what other people in the field were doing and to study the process.
Since then Hugh Lofting Timber Framing, Inc. has designed and built timber frames as private homes, additions, barns, studios, store fronts, bridges, lean-tos, gazebos, bell towers, and office buildings, to name a few. The crew has traveled from Virginia to the Adirondack mountains raising frames.
The crew at Hugh Lofting Timber Framing, Inc. has been working together for several years, and each individual adds his or her own personal touch to the process. Ideas are shared and executed by all members of the team which nurtures the company's quest for growth and improvement. Although the crew is skilled in designing, cutting, delivering, and raising these outstanding frames, Hugh is still involved in every phase of the process. He spends his time where it is most needed, in the office, meeting with clients, or cutting and detailing timbers in the shop.
