Owned and operated by Storm and Babe Carpenter, we specialize in full scribe joinery. This is the art of carefully scribing each log to the contours of the log below. We also use round log chinked style on request.
One must see a log home scribed by a master firsthand to fathom the absolute precision nessecary to join the logs. "Your eyes will search for joints that can scarcely be seen. Your hands will feel for joints that cannot be felt, caressing the massive timbers as if they were alive."
We offer our handcrafted log homes from a variety of log species and sizes including Larch, Douglas Fir, Spruce, Ponderosa Pine and Lodgepole Pine, with log diameters available ranging from 12 to 30 inches and log lengths up to 100 feet. We also craft a few selected homes from Western Juniper.
Yes! We are the only log home company that has crafted full scribe homes from Juniper! Extreme Character and shade variation combine for an effect that is truly amazing.
We carefully select Juniper from areas where competition for light has forced them to grow fairly tall, yielding logs up to 45 feet long. Very decay resistant, even superior to Cedar. Extreme irregularity makes this species very labor intensive, but by utilizing this prolific tree we feel we can lessen the pressure on species in higher demand.
At log wall intersections we prefer our scarfed, shrink-to-fit saddle notch. This notch will retain its perfect fit as the logs season.
With full scribe joinery, we employ a check kerf the entire length of the log. This kerf is located at the top surface of the log and is not visible on the finished home. A check kerf not only controls checking, but helps maintain a perfect fit at the lateral joint. We also through-bolt all exterior walls. Through-bolts are 5/8" threaded steel rods that run the height of the wall from eave log through the sub-floor.
