We specialize in full-scribe log construction producing homes, cottages and commercial buildings. Other styles include hewn dovetail and full round chinked.
Located in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia, we have the ability to ship our packages within the province, inter-provincially and internationally.
At Timberstone we will perform any stage of the project from log package only to a complete turnkey project (turn keys limited to within a 100 km range of our prefabrication site). Using native pine logs that we have chosen and select cut from the forest, we handcraft log walls, floor systems, roof systems, stairways and furniture to your specifications.
When the logs reach our prefabrication site they are handpeeled either using drawknives or peelings spuds. We then sand, scribe and notch the logs to form a solid wall system in accordance to the plans of your choice.
With the full scribe or Scandinavian style of log construction the only additional material required in the wall system is fiberglass insulation that is packed in the corner notches and lateral groves to fill the internal air space that is created by our work. This style produces a wall that is completely log inside and out with very tight wood on wood contact. We feel that having the tightest possible joinery is the best defence against air infiltration, as well as giving the appearance of careful and knowledgeable craftsmanship.
Log homes have become increasingly popular over the past few years as shown by the ability of three fairly new magazine publications that concentrate solely on log homes to take place in the market. With growing interest in log home construction the banks have changed the policies and now mortgage log homes in the same way as conventional housing.
Although becoming more popular, hand-crafted log buildings remain purely original as each has it's own appearance and character. This originality is shown by the need to have every log building engineer approved before commencing construction.
