Yellowstone Log Homes traces it’s roots back to 1935 when Lewis Youngstrom started building sawmills and machinery for the wood working industry.
In 1949 he started a sawmill and logging operation at Spencer, Idaho. Although from the early years the sawmill was cutting some house logs, it’s main product was lumber, which was shipped throughout the intermountain west. By the mid 1950’s the business had been moved to Dubois, Idaho and was looking for a new challenge.
In 1962, the first machined house logs were produced. This type of log with it’s superior fit and finish, would forever change the business. Youngstrom Lumber would become Youngstrom Log Homes.
In 1976 Lewis was preparing to retire so he asked his son’s Lynn and David what they wanted to do when he stepped down. The answer was simple enough-continue to make Log Homes! They knew the business and had made many contrbutions over the years. Yellowstone Log Homes was then started in Rigby, Idaho. And guess what? Lewis never did retire, but as he put it, “got retreaded”. Although slowing down a little, Lewis continued a very active life of inventing machinery and making house logs until his death in 1987. At this time all assets were purchased by Yellowstone Log Homes.
In addition to our standard Swedish cope machined logs, we have a handcrafted division. This type of log is for the individual who wants a truly unique custom home. Dan Roberts is in charge of this operation and has much experience in this type of construction.
Log homes are as unique as the person who builds them. We offer free estimates on a custom plan of your own, as well as the plans available in our Yellowstone Log Homes plan book. Full details are available at our Web site Yellowstone Log Homes Telephone: 1-208-745-8108.
